Moscow Building 5000 Bomb Shelters for Forced Relocation?

The U.K. Telegraph is reporting that Russia is planning "the biggest population relocation since Stalin" - an effort to concentrate the majority of Russia's 141 million-strong population into 20 Megacities... Analysts said the plan, "would roll back the Soviet idea of urbanising the entire country."

Wikipedia maintains a historical timeline of population transfer in the Soviet Union which indicates the last relocation occurred in 1951.

Moscow Building 5000 Bomb Shelters By 2012

According to the RT.com video report featured at Windows to Russia - "currently in Moscow there are only shelters to house approx. half the current population".   I speculate this is by design - with a shelter for half the population being the approximate formula. As central planners prepare for the upcoming relocation, logic would dictate an increase in the number of shelters in order to maintain the ratio of one shelter for every other person in the city.  Perhaps this is the reason for the 5000 new shelters in Moscow?

China Purchases U.S. Based General Motors Factory

SOURCE
Nov. 11 – Amid a series of heightened exchanges between Washington and Beijing over China’s currency manipulation and the U.S. Federal Reserve’s loosening of its monetary policy, a fresh layer of intrigue was slapped on by recent news that Beijing-based Pacific Century Motors has successfully purchased a General Motors plant in Saginaw, Michigan. (This deal was initially announced in early July.)

Under the name Saginaw Steering Gear, the Michigan unit has made steering equipment for GM and its affiliates for over 100 years, employing close to 8,300 staff around the world. Now named Nexteer, it is Saginaw’s largest private employer.

The US$450 million dollar purchase includes 22 factories, six research and development centers, and 14 customer-support centers.

The purchase will undeniably test China’s ability to manage such ventures overseas, but it will also be an important test of America’s ability to accept foreign owners, especially as unemployment worsens and U.S. politicians continue to point to China as the cause of their domestic ails.

“Did it really need to be sold to the Chinese?” asks Roger Kahn, a state senator from Michigan. “I want to see businesses successful in the U.S. owned in the U.S. This doesn’t meet the standard.”

U.S. leaders currently in Seoul for the G20 summit are pressing their Chinese counterparts for more of the same. Buying from the United States would decrease the ever-growing trade gap, which already amounts to US$200 billion for the year.

For the workers of the auto plant, having access to Chinese capital and its home market is bringing optimism to an American city where unemployment hit 14 percent earlier this year. The company now plans on adding 100 more engineering jobs.

In related news, you may recall last month's Kish Collections featured article on State-owned Chinese energy giant CNOOC's purchase of 600,000 acres of South Texas oil and gas fields.

Quantitative Easing and World War

Absolutely the best report I have read on the topic of Quantitative Easing is linked here -
Why the U.S. has Launched a New Financial World War -- And How the the Rest of the World Will Fight Back - By MICHAEL HUDSON
http://www.counterpunch.org/hudson10112010.html
Printed out, this report is 8 pages long (first cut and paste to a word processor - printed directly off the counterpunch site it's 18 pages). Below, I have attached many of the key sections of the report:

Finance is the new form of warfare – without the expense of a military overhead and an occupation against unwilling hosts.

“Quantitative easing” is a euphemism for flooding economies with credit, that is, debt on the other side of the balance sheet.

The problem is that U.S. quantitative easing is driving the dollar downward and other currencies up, much to the applause of currency speculators enjoying a quick and easy free lunch.

The world is seeing a competition in credit creation to buy foreign resources, real estate, public and privatized infrastructure, bonds and corporate stock ownership. This financial grab is occurring without an army to seize the land or take over the government. Finance is the new form of warfare – without the expense of a military overhead and an occupation against unwilling hosts. Indeed, this “currency war” so far has been voluntary among individual buyers and the sellers who receive surplus dollars for their assets. It is foreign economies that lose, as their central banks recycle this tidal wave of dollar “keyboard credit” back into low-yielding U.S. Treasury securities of declining international value.

For thousands of years tribute was extracted by conquering land and looting silver and gold, as in the sacking of Constantinople in 1204, or Incan Peru and Aztec Mexico three centuries later. But who needs a military war when the same objective can be won financially? Today’s preferred mode of warfare is financial. Victory in today’s monetary warfare promises to go to whatever economy’s banking system can create the most credit. Computer keyboards are today’s army appropriating the world’s resources.

“We are in a different time today.” On the eve of the Washington IMF meetings he added: “The idea that there is an absolute need in a globalised world to work together may lose some steam.”

The great question in global finance today is thus how long other nations will continue to succumb as the cumulative costs rise into the financial stratosphere? The world is being forced to choose between financial anarchy and subordination to a new U.S. economic nationalism. This is what is prompting nations to create an alternative financial system altogether.

Quantitative easing subsidizes U.S. capital flight, pushing up non-dollar currency exchange rates

Bernanke created $2 trillion in new Federal Reserve credit. And now (October 2010) the Fed is proposing to increase the Fed’s money creation by another $1 trillion over the coming year. This is what has led gold prices to surge and investors to move out of weakening “paper currencies” since early September – and prompted other nations to protect their own economies accordingly.

This capital outflow from the United States has indeed helped domestic banks rebuild their balance sheets, as the Fed intended. But in the process the international financial system has been victimized as collateral damage. This prompted Chinese officials to counter U.S. attempts to blame it for running a trade surplus by retorting that U.S. financial aggression “risked bringing mutual destruction upon the great economic powers.

From the gold-exchange standard to the Treasury-bill standard to “free credit” anarchy

Indeed, the standoff between the United States and other countries at the IMF meetings in Washington this weekend threatens to cause the most serious rupture since the breakdown of the London Monetary Conference in 1933. The global financial system threatens once again to break apart, deranging the world’s trade and investment relationships – or to take a new form that will leave the United States isolated in the face of its structural long-term balance-of-payments deficit.

This crisis provides an opportunity – indeed, a need – to step back and review the longue durĂ©e of international financial evolution to see where past trends are leading and what paths need to be re-tracked. For many centuries prior to 1971, nations settled their balance of payments in gold or silver. This “money of the world,” as Sir James Steuart called gold in 1767, formed the basis of domestic currency as well. Until 1971 each U.S. Federal Reserve note was backed 25 per cent by gold, valued at $35 an ounce. Countries had to obtain gold by running trade and payments surpluses in order to increase their money supply to facilitate general economic expansion. And when they ran trade deficits or undertook military campaigns, central banks restricted the supply of domestic credit to raise interest rates and attract foreign financial inflows.

As long as this behavioral condition remained in place, the international financial system operated fairly smoothly under checks and balances, albeit under “stop-go” policies when business expansions led to trade and payments deficits. Countries running such deficits raised their interest rates to attract foreign capital, while slashing government spending, raising taxes on consumers and slowing the domestic economy so as to reduce the purchase of imports.

What destabilized this system was war spending. War-related transactions spanning World Wars I and II enabled the United States to accumulate some 80 per cent of the world’s monetary gold by 1950. This made the dollar a virtual proxy for gold. But after the Korean War broke out, U.S. overseas military spending accounted for the entire payments deficit during the 1950s and ‘60s and early ‘70s. Private-sector trade and investment was exactly in balance.

By August 1971, war spending in Vietnam and other foreign countries forced the United States to suspend gold convertibility of the dollar through sales via the London Gold Pool. But largely by inertia, central banks continued to settle their payments balances in U.S. Treasury securities. After all, there was no other asset in sufficient supply to form the basis for central bank monetary reserves. But replacing gold – a pure asset – with dollar-denominated U.S. Treasury debt transformed the global financial system. It became debt-based, not asset-based. And geopolitically, the Treasury-bill standard made the United States immune from the traditional balance-of-payments and financial constraints, enabling its capital markets to become more highly debt-leveraged and “innovative.” It also enabled the U.S. Government to wage foreign policy and military campaigns without much regard for the balance of payments.

The problem is that the supply of dollar credit has become potentially infinite.

Contrary to most public media posturing, the U.S. payments deficit – and hence, other countries’ payments surpluses – is not primarily a trade deficit. Foreign military spending has accelerated despite the Cold War ending with (perceived) dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

U.S. “quantitative easing” is coming to be perceived as a euphemism for a predatory financial attack on the rest of the world. Trade and currency stability are part of the “collateral damage” being caused by the Federal Reserve and Treasury flooding the economy with liquidity in their attempt to re-inflate U.S. asset prices. Faced with U.S. quantitative easing flooding the economy with reserves to “save the banks” from negative equity, all countries are obliged to act as “currency manipulators.” So much money is made by purely financial speculation that “real” economies are being destroyed.

The coming capital controls

The global financial system is being broken up as U.S. monetary officials change the rules they laid down nearly half a century ago. Prior to the United States going off gold in 1971, nobody dreamed that an economy – especially the United States – would create unlimited credit on computer keyboards and not see its currency plunge.

Malaysia successfully used capital controls during the 1997 Asian Crisis to prevent short-sellers from covering their bets. This confronted speculators with a short squeeze that George Soros says made him lose money on the attempted raid. Other countries are now reviewing how to impose capital controls to protect themselves from the tsunami of credit from flowing into their currencies and buying up their assets – along with gold and other commodities that are turning into vehicles for speculation rather than actual use in production. Brazil took a modest step along this path by using tax policy rather than outright capital controls when it taxed foreign buyers of its bonds last week.

If other nations take this route, it will reverse the policy of open and unprotected capital markets adopted after World War II. This trend threatens to lead to the kind of international monetary practice found from the 1930s into the ‘50s: dual exchange rates, one for financial movements and another for trade. It probably would mean replacing the IMF, World Bank and WTO with a new set of institutions, isolating U.S., British and Eurozone representation.

To defend itself, the IMF is proposing to act as a “central bank” creating what was called “paper gold” in the late 1960s – artificial credit in the form of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs).

The BRIC countries are simply creating their own parallel system. In September, China supported a Russian proposal to start direct trading between the yuan and the ruble. It has brokered a similar deal with Brazil. And on the eve of the IMF meetings in Washington on Friday, October 8, Chinese Premier Wen stopped off in Istanbul to reach agreement with Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan to use their own currencies in tripling Turkish-Chinese trade to $50 billion over the next five years, effectively excluding the U.S. dollar. “We are forming an economic strategic partnership … In all of our relations, we have agreed to use the lira and yuan,” Mr. Erdogan said.

On the deepest economic lane, the present global financial breakdown is part of the price to be paid for the Federal Reserve and U.S. Treasury refusing to accept a prime axiom of banking: Debts that cannot be paid, won’t be. They tried to “save” the banking system from debt write-downs in 2008 by keeping the debt overhead in place. The resulting repayment burden continues to shrink the U.S. economy, while the Fed’s way to help the banks “earn their way out of negative equity” has been to fuel a flood of international financial speculation. Faced with normalizing world trade or providing opportunities for predatory finance, the U.S. and Britain have thrown their weigh behind the latter. Targeted economies understandably seeking alternative arrangements.

NIA Projects Future U.S. Food Price Increases

The National Inflation Association today announced the release of its report about NIA's projections of future U.S. food price increases due to the massive monetary inflation being created by the Federal Reserve's $600 billion quantitative easing. This report was written by NIA's President Gerard Adams, who believes food inflation will take over in 2011 as America's greatest crisis. According to Mr. Adams, making mortgage payments will soon be the last thing on the minds of all Americans. We currently have a currency crisis that could soon turn into hyperinflation and a complete societal collapse.

"For every economic problem the U.S. government tries to solve, it always creates two or three much larger catastrophes in the process," said Adams. "Just like we predicted this past December, the U.S. dollar index bounced in early 2010 and has been in free-fall ever since. Bernanke's QE2 will likely accelerate this free-fall into a complete U.S. dollar rout," warned Adams.

NIA projects that at the average U.S. grocery store it will soon cost $11.43 for one ear of corn, $23.05 for a 24 oz loaf of wheat bread, $62.21 for a 32 oz package of Domino Granulated Sugar, $24.31 for a 32 fl oz container of soy milk, $77.71 for a 11.30 oz container of Folgers Classic Roast Coffee, $45.71 for a 64 fl oz container of Minute Maid Orange Juice, and $15.50 for a Hershey's Milk Chocolate 1.55 oz candy bar. NIA also projects that by the end of this decade, a plain white men's cotton t-shirt at Wal-Mart will cost $55.57.

NIA's special U.S. food price projection report is now available to download for free by clicking here.

Chinese Counterfeit Parts in the DOD Supply Chain

The following is a collection of information from Mark Watson which has been compiled by Final Phase Forum member NBT Truth. This is really scary stuff - especially if you understand manufacturing, defense and also happen to be the type of person that loves Liberty.

Mr. Watson comments on the CNN article linked HERE -

In case you have not been a regular reader of Watson's Web, I have talked before many times about 'supply chain contamination'. While you hear little about it in the blogosphere, it is a major, major issue. I can tell you that already, unknown to most Americans some, of our weapons systems have been compromised by parts that were designed to fail and made overseas. This is both a military threat as it is a simple commercial one.

Do you remember the stories about Toyota's having problems with their accelerators? That is what industrial supply chain contamination looks like. You get a part from a place like say... China that the manufacturer built in some remote facility. The guy who owns the factory gets a visit from the Chinese government who tells them they will not put the usual part in the shipment, but will provide these 'special' parts that will be sent to the customer. The buyer is totally unaware of what is happening, until people start crashing cars all over America and the buyer of the parts gets caught in a very nasty publicity and legal mess.

Pretty messed up huh? Welcome to the real world. Now translate that comparatively insignificant problem over into the defense arena and you begin to see the enormous ramifications. They can be anything from poor workmanship, to carefully designed component degradation (within a fully predictable timeline) to vulnerabilities (hidden commands inside hardware/software) that reacts to certain commands on a battlefield that only our enemies can exploit.

This is a real problem and is not just Labor Unions and others whining about manufacturing overseas. This is truly a major National Security Problem. Because if the parts for our weapons systems are not being made here, they are being made elsewhere.

We have already lost our lead in some critical defense-related industries such as semiconductors, printed circuit boards, machine tools, advanced materials and aerospace, Baugh said. The closure of the Avondale and Ingalls shipyards would cripple our ability to make ships.

Michael Wessel, a member of the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, told the panel the situation is so bad that we no longer have the domestic capacity to produce enough ammunition to supply our troops and law enforcement. There are waiting lists to fill the police departments here at home, he said. - AFL-CIO

Well, here is a white paper that talks about just one issue, counterfeit parts in the DOD supply chain. You can find the report here:

http://markswatson.com/final_counterfeit_electronics_report.pdf

Indeed, finding number nine (in above link) says "Most DoD organizations do not have policies in place to prevent counterfeit parts from infiltrating their supply chain." Kind of scary isn't it? What if we had to go to war with a nation like say... China only to find out weapons systems, C3I systems were crippled once we got 100 miles off China's shore?

According to U.S. intelligence officials, data compromised through Chinese spying included the theft of Aegis battle management technology, which is the heart of the U.S. Navy’s warships and which already has been copied in at least two Chinese warships.

Other losses attributed to Chinese military spies include secrets related to U.S. attack submarines, U.S. bombers and other aircraft and strategic missile and rocket technology. - Ruthfullyyours

Sleep tight. I hope you can, because it seems for years our Defense and Intelligence officials have been sleeping... at the wheel. Recently I had a long, long conversation with a fairly high up defense official who is very much clued in as to what is happening in our world and in Washington. Things are so bad he is seriously considering moving himself and his family out of America. He sees the treason inside the government as so great and now, unstoppable he thinks the best place to move is to the southern hemisphere....

Election and Voter Fraud - How Confident Are You?

In my polling place on Tuesday, I was offered a choice to cast my vote on a standard paper ballot or to vote on a computer. I chose the computer. After all, I rely on computers every day at work and at home. I am comfortable with computers. They are fast and easy. Sure, they crash sometimes and sometimes I lose or misplace data, but these instances are rare.

Those were my thoughts as I confidently navigated the touch screen on a sturdy looking Diebold electronic voting machine. While the paper scroll was loudly printed to "confirm" my vote, I strained to read the text through the magnified glass window conveniently built into the face of the seemingly secure machine. I felt confident that my vote was correctly cast and tallied. I felt confident - even though I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes.

Later, I happened upon a radio interview with Bev Harris - a leading election and voter fraud expert. Initially, I was shocked by what she said. However, because I work with computers every day, I knew in my heart that she was speaking the truth.

Bev described case after case of voter and election fraud involving electronic voting machines. She explained the hidden aspects, lack of accountability and opportunities for fraud that exist within an electronic voting system.

According to Bev, in an election there are “four essential processes that have to be available to the public for authentication without need for special expertise”. These processes are-

1) The voter list - who can vote?
2) The participating voter list - who did vote?
3) Chain of custody - whether the ballot which is counted is the same one that was cast.
4) The counting of the vote – meaning a public counting of the vote.

In a hidden electronic system, each of these four phases is highly vulnerable to fraud.  She named three nations in Europe (Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland) that have “seen through this” and mothballed their electronic voting machines as a result. At the end of the interview she explained meaningful common sense reforms, which are needed to minimize the occurrence of election fraud. With respect to reform, (at 19:02 in the audio clip) she says, “we need to look at what is meaningful”.
What we want is the public to be able to see and authenticate the original count. That doesn’t mean something two weeks later. That means the original count - before it goes anywhere – at the polling place. There are places that are doing this. In fact, there are kind of some halfway measures that are meaningful. In Humboldt County California and now Yolo County California have added this – they just bought an off the shelf scanner from Office Depot. And they are taking their ballots and also running them through that scanner and making them available to the public on CD and putting them on the web. They are anonymous. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this… They are putting them out right away and you can see – you can count them yourself… …there is free open sourced software… The point being, that this is not expensive and it is very very public. And it brings the public in and allows them to see what is going on. But we have to keep remembering that what we want is a public count. The original count, not something later down the road, needs to be something that is done in public or that the public can authenticate without need for special expertise. That is one thing.

The next thing is “who voted”. This is getting to be the next area the next frontier where they are keeping it secret. It is getting harder and harder to see the poll books or even have poll books. They are starting to transfer these into electronic databases which “now you see it, now you don’t”. In Tennessee, I found 3,200 more votes than voters in the participating voters list.
Next time - given the same choice, I will cast my vote on the paper ballot.

U.S. Media Sleeps While Historic Trial Unfolds

Gates of Vienna: The Expert Testimony of Hans Jansen at the Geert Wilders Trial
Professor Hans Jansen, one of the most prominent and respected scholars of Islam in the Western world, was called by Geert Wilders as an expert witness in Mr. Wilders’ recently-postponed trial for “hate speech” in Amsterdam.

Just as with the testimony given by Simon Admiraal and Wafa Sultan, Hans Jansen’s words are a devastating blow to those who accuse Mr. Wilders of “insulting” Islam. Every statement by the defendant is painstakingly demonstrated to be an accurate description of Islamic scripture, law, history, and theology.

Anyone in the future who is unfortunate enough to have to defend himself against the charge of “defaming Islam” will owe a great debt to Hans Jansen and Geert Wilders. This material has been read into the official record of a court of law in the Netherlands, and thus the European Union. This is precedent.
